MICKEY BUNN Morning Show Host, Program Director,
Music Director, News Director Mickey was born in Brownsville, Tennessee. He was raised up around Dickson, but a job with a local apparel manufacturer brought him to Hickman County in 1991. Mickey had always dreamed of being a radio disc jockey. As a kid, he'd sit in his room, cue up records and cassette tapes and imagine he was the local radio announcer. He had never been able to find anyone who would give him the chance at radio until he met Steve Turner, a local radio station manager who would turn out to be a good friend and, eventually, his employer. Mickey was announcer for a Saturday morning Bluegrass show called the "Dixie Ramblers Show" when he met Steve. The show moved to WNKX in mid-1993. Mickey and Steve met for the first time in a parking lot in Bucksnort, Tennessee on a Friday night to exchange some equipment for the Saturday Morning broadcast. Steve had heard the show and felt Mickey had potential. He asked Mickey to come by and talk to him. They made an appointment and met at the station a few days later. After studying the offer, Mickey decided to give it a shot. If he would ever do radio, this may be the chance he'd been waiting for. He was hired as a sales rep and part-time announcer in September 1993. Mickey never worked part-time, as fate would have it, he was needed on a full-time basis immediately. Mickey was asked to assume the duties of Music Director and later acting News Director. Terry Durham, Morning Show Host and News Director, was very sick and unable to work full-time. Mickey was eventually asked to take over hosting the morning show. He is also the station "Fix-It Man", serving as an in-House engineer keeping things sounding and functioning good. Mickey left the morning show in late 2000 to pursue a career as an EMT-IV, after he earned a degree from Columbia State Community College. Mickey is a volunteer with several local Emergency services, and felt he might serve well pursuing the medical profession. Although he continued working at WNKX part -time, Steve had been wanting to bring Mickey back full-time. The long hours and nights away from his family finally took it's toll, He decided it was time to go back where he belonged... at WNKX. With the help of Steve, a "Coming Back" date was set April 2nd, 2001. Newspaper ads in the Hickman County Times teased of something BIG about to happen at the local radio station, but they didn't let the secret out until that Monday, when Mickey came back with a bang! The audience response was great!!! Mickey can still be found helping the local EMS part-time, but Monday through Friday mornings from 6 til 9, he's waking up listeners in Southwest Middle Tennessee with a good mix of Classic Country, Todays Country Hits, Bluegrass and some good ol' Southern Comedy. Listen weekday mornings and get your day started right with "Mickey in the Morning" !! |

Sheila B after 3 Afternoons / Office Manager On September 23 (or 24th) 1957 in a cow pasture on a diary farm in Luxpalilla Bottoms, Fayette, Al Momma and a midwife brought me into this world!! What a day!! Momma named me after actress Sheila McRae. (Dianne came from a magazine). My father worked on a diary farm for Mr. & Mrs. West. Mrs. West was a midwife. When my father went to the hospital to formally announce and register my entrance into this world, he apparently wasn’t specific about the exact day I came…nor how my names were supposed to be spelled. Fast-forward 25 years… I asked Momma for my birth certificate before moving out of state. Lo and behold, my date of birth was a day later than I had been taught AND both my names were misspelled!!! Holy Cow!! Try changing vital information after 25 years!!! Especially the spelling of your name!! I don’t appear to really know WHO I am or WHEN I was born!! I only know WHERE~ALABAMA!!! And I know I have a 2~day birthday celebration ;-) Sept. 23 for my family & Alabama friends, Sept. 24th for friends in Tennessee!! What a deal!! But I only age a year…All’s well that ends well!! I am very blessed to be where I am today. God has blessed me with a beautiful daughter Marie. She has Cerebral Palsy (now 35 years old) and I have two boys, Tony is 20 and Matthew is 18. Tony just got back from a year long stint with the 267th MP National Guard Unit in Baghdad. Both boys attend MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN. Matt is working towards a Pharmacy Tech degree and Tony will take Psychology to better assist his troops as he continues his Army Career. Just when I thought my life was pretty blessed, Steve Turner invited me to join the KiX96 family as Office Manager. You can imagine how long it took me to decide…I was driving 45 minutes one way into Nashville every day. UGH!! I joined the staff August 31, 2007. I was given the opportunity to try my hand as an on~air personality for the afternoon drive!! SWEET!! Between Mickey~In~The~Morning training me for two weeks one~on~one and great advice given by Steve, I have a great start! I truly enjoy both aspects of my job. My position as Office Manager allows me to utilize my 15+ years of experience in an office, although it comes with a certain amount of responsibility and accountability. My on~air shift allows me a certain amount of creativity along with accountability for my show content. I try to play a great mix of music (Mickey programs most of it) while providing a fun, entertaining and positive atmosphere. I have kind of an unusual personality…funny in an odd sort of way.
I have lots to learn, but I know I am living a dream…and I have a blessed life. I welcome your comments, suggestions and quotes at sheilab@countrykix96.com.
It’s great to be me…Sheila B After 3!!! |
